At St Joseph’s, we believe that our faith is something we live, not simply something we learn about.
Catholic Social Teaching helps us to understand how our faith calls us to treat others, care for creation and work together to build a fairer, more loving world.
Our Catholic Social Teaching is rooted in Scripture and in the teaching of the Catholic Church.
Matthew 25: ‘Truly I tell you that whatever you do for the least of my brothers that you do for me’
Through our learning, prayer and everyday experiences, children explore the principles of
- Dignity of the Human Person,
- The Common Good,
- Peace,
- Option for the Poor,
- Dignity of Work and Participation,
- Solidarity,
- Care for Creation and Environment.
Encounter, Action and Service
Our children and staff endeavour to live out these principles at St Joseph’s every day.
Through our pupil buddy system, designed to welcome and support pupils, our visits to local care homes and outreach with the parish, our support for the local food bank, as well as fundraising for national and global causes, children have opportunities to live out their faith through action.
We want children to learn about the lives of others, listen to their experiences, pray for those in need and consider what they can do to make a difference.
Through all these opportunities, we want our children to recognise that Christ is present in every person. Catholic Social Teaching encourages us to see beyond differences, to stand alongside those who are vulnerable, to welcome those who feel excluded and to use our gifts in the service of others.
Our aim is for children to leave St Joseph’s not only knowing the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, but living them – through friendship, prayer, service, generosity, justice, solidarity and care for our common home.
