We provide a broad, balanced, differentiated and relevant curriculum which is
accessible to all our pupils. We believe that school is an important influence on a
child’s development and our curriculum promotes the academic, physical, cultural,
moral, spiritual, and social welfare of each individual pupil. It seeks to develop the
potential of every child in order to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities
and experiences of adult life and provide a basis for future secondary school
education.

The school aims to produce happy pupils with sound moral values, who are both literate
and numerate and who are hard-working, self-disciplined, considerate, responsible and
sociable. We are constantly developing our curriculum, looking to develop and improve
it each year. Each teacher places their curriculum areas of study for the term on the
school website for parents to read.

Pupils with Special Educational Needs access the whole curriculum and Gifted and
Talented pupils are extended through differentiated activities, on an individual basis
if appropriate.

Throughout the day the pupils experience different styles of learning including
individual, group and whole class work with many practical activities and experiences.
Theme days are a chance for the whole school to come together to focus on a
particular subject in a variety of fun, constructive and informative ways.

EYFS

The early years are vitally important in forming the foundation stones for all future
development. A child’s first year in school is part of the Early Years Foundation Stage,
the curriculum which caters for children from birth to the end of the academic year in
which they turn 5. There are seven areas of learning which make up the curriculum.
These are split into three Prime areas which are fundamental in supporting learning to
an additional four Specific areas. These are:

Prime Areas:

• Communication and language
• Physical development
• Personal, social and emotional development

Specific Areas:

• Literacy
• Mathematics
• Understand the world
• Expressive arts and design

The teaching and learning experiences we offer are designed to give children a rich
variety of opportunities in a way that meets their individual needs, enabling them to
develop a wide range of skills through play and exploration. We have created an
environment that facilitates independent learning, indoors through our many areas of
provision and outside in our designated area which allows for continuous use.
