Our School Family

St Joseph’s RC Primary School was built originally in 1901. The school eventually outgrew its building and a new school was built, here on its current site on Swainsea Lane in 1968. At the back of the school is a lovely, large walled and fenced large playing field.

The children are taught by skilled, motivated, caring and dedicated staff, all of whom have high expectations of pupil behaviour and achievement. A positive ethos pervades the school, with a working atmosphere of collaboration and mutual consideration. As a consequence the children are enthusiastic and their attitude to learning is truly something to see.

St Joseph’s currently enjoys an excellent reputation within the local area, serving children mainly from Pickering and surrounding villages.

We are proud of our church school status, being a Roman Catholic school. The uniqueness of each individual is featured in the aims of the school and is related to Christian values. Through the Christian ethos of the school we want our children to develop the social skills and moral values that will help them become proud, responsible, understanding and caring members of our school and our global community.

At St Joseph’s, we aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum which promotes spiritual, cultural, emotional, moral and physical development. As our children begin their journeys of learning and faith we work for each individual pupil’s potential to flourish in a caring and close-knit environment.

We are very proud of all our children – the progress they make and all that they achieve under the guidance and care of the staff.

We are a team who believe in the value of every child and adult who comes into our school. As such, we want all of our school family to feel valued, happy and respected and to recognise their role in continuing to make our school to be the best it can be.

We believe in the concept of lifelong learning and in the idea that both adults and children learn new things every day. In our school, we aim to raise standards and ensure all pupils reach their full potential in every area of school life: academic, social, personally, physical and spiritual. We maintain this within an enjoyable and challenging learning environment that is rewarding for everyone. Through our teaching, we equip children with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to be able to make informed choices and take appropriate risks.

We work very hard to ensure we have a strong, dedicated and passionate team of teachers, non-teaching and support staff who are all working towards our shared mission statement.

We are proud of the positive comments we regularly receive from visitors about our staff and positive learning environment and we hope that as you read our school brochure, you will gain a sense of this shared vision throughout our school family.

If you would like to find out more about our school, I extend a warm invitation to you and your family to come and see why St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School is such a special place!
