Welcome to Class 3’s web page!

Welcome to the class page for Year 3 and 4, here you will find out some key information
about timetable and class expectations. Class 3 marks the beginning of KS2, which means
the children will be starting to work more independently on learning about and exploring
a variety of exciting and fun topics/themes.

On a typical day, the children will have maths and English lessons in the morning with a
break in between. Lunch is between 12.00 – 1pm. The afternoons will generally consist
of our other curriculum areas, which will include two lessons of RE and PE each week,
one lesson of both science and computing, with other subjects, such as geography,
history, art, DT and music work also covered on a rolling programme.

Reading
Please encourage your child to be responsible for their school reading book and reading
record, which should be taken daily to and from school. My expectation is for each child
to read their school reading book to an adult at home for fifteen minutes at least 3 times
per week (or more) and this to be recorded in their reading record. These will be checked
every Friday morning. If the children do read at least three times per week, their name
will be placed in the raffle to win a prize from the class reward box.

Spelling
Each Friday, your child will receive new spellings on Spelling Shed and also in their Home Learning Journal. These are practiceddaily in school through a variety of ways and an assessment of these tales place the following Friday. Please encourage your child to access and practice these at a variety of opportunities through the week. Login details can be found in the front of their reading records.

Times Tables
There is now a statutory multiplication tables check (MTC) which Year 4 children will
undertake in June. The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall
their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It also
serves to help our school identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables,
so that additional support can be provided.

PE.
The day for this will vary each half-term. Currently, during Autumn 1, we have PE on a
Monday and Thursday afternoon. On these days, please send your child to school in their PE kit, which should consist of; trainers for outside /plimsolls for inside, white T-
shirt, black/navy blue shorts, black/navy blue tracksuit for outdoor games in cold weather. Please make sure all jewellery is removed and long hair is tied back.

Helping Your Child at Home- Lower Key Stage 2
Year 3 and 4 are crucial years in a child’s academic development. In school they still require
ample opportunities for creativity and to deepen understanding of concepts through
application and reasoning. It is no different at home, and helping your child beyond the
classroom can have significant benefits for them.
